Managed Unit

A managed unit is something an organization tracks as its own item in the system.

It could be a room, bed, desk, apartment, court, vehicle, piece of equipment, or another resource. The important point is that the item needs its own information, status, history, rules, or reporting.

When Should Something Be Its Own Managed Unit?

It usually makes sense to create a separate managed unit when the business needs to track that exact item over time.

  • It has its own availability or schedule.
  • It has its own capacity or status.
  • Bookings or assignments need to point to it.
  • It has maintenance, inspections, or issue history.
  • Managers need reports about that item.

Does a Managed Unit Have to Be Bookable?

No. A managed unit can be important even if nobody books it directly.

For example, a building may contain several bookable rooms, while a piece of equipment may only need maintenance tracking. A Bookable Unit is the narrower term for an item that can be reserved or assigned through a booking process.

How Is This Used in Booking Ninjas?
