A bookable unit is a room, space, resource, service slot, or other managed item that can be reserved or assigned through a booking process.
Examples can include a hotel room, meeting room, desk, court, bed, campsite, piece of equipment, or a staff member's available time. The exact unit depends on what the organization sells, assigns, or schedules.
What Does a Bookable Unit Need?
- A clear identity or resource record.
- Availability or a schedule.
- Capacity when more than one person or quantity can use it.
- Booking rules such as notice periods or blackout dates.
- Pricing when the unit is sold or charged for.
- A way to connect the final booking back to the unit.
How Is a Bookable Unit Different From a Managed Unit?
A managed unit is any item the organization needs to track as its own record. A bookable unit is the narrower case where that item can also be reserved or assigned through booking.
A building can be a managed unit without being directly bookable. Individual rooms inside the building may be bookable units.
How Does a Bookable Unit Connect to a Booking?
The booking links the customer or group to the exact unit, date, time, quantity, or other conditions being reserved. That connection lets the system update availability and apply the right rules.
