Self-Service Portal

A self-service portal is a secure online area where users can complete selected tasks on their own instead of asking staff to do them.

The portal can give customers, members, tenants, guests, or other users access to the information and actions that relate to them. Staff still control what each type of user can see and do.

What Can Users Do Through Self-Service?

  • View or update profile information.
  • Manage bookings or reservations when allowed.
  • View invoices and payment history.
  • Make approved payments.
  • Submit and track service requests.
  • Access documents, messages, or account information.

A portal should only include the self-service actions that are useful for that audience.

How Is a Self-Service Portal Different From a Customer Portal?

Self-service describes what the portal lets the user do. Customer portal describes who the portal is for.

A customer portal can be a self-service portal. A member portal, tenant portal, or guest portal can also provide self-service. See Customer Portal and Member Portal.
