A reservation is a record that sets aside a room, space, service, resource, or other item for a person or group.
It normally connects who is reserving, what is being held, and when it will be used. It may also include rates, payments, notes, rules, or other details needed to manage the reservation.
Is a Reservation the Same as a Booking?
Often, yes. Many organizations use the words booking and reservation for the same thing.
Other organizations use them differently. For example, “reservation” may mean something is being held, while “booking” may mean the process is fully confirmed. The important point is to define the terms clearly in the system instead of assuming everyone uses them the same way.
What Can Change During a Reservation?
- Dates or times.
- The room, space, service, or resource.
- Guest or participant details.
- Price, deposit, or payment status.
- Reservation status, such as active, changed, or canceled.
These changes should also update availability so the same resource is not promised twice.
