Automation is a rule or process that makes a repeatable action happen automatically when defined conditions are met.
It can reduce manual work by updating records, creating tasks, sending notifications, routing approvals, or starting another workflow. The result depends on the rules configured for the process.
What Can Automation Do?
- Create or assign a task.
- Send an alert or notification.
- Update a status or field.
- Route a record for approval.
- Start follow-up after a booking, payment, request, or other event.
- Pass information to another connected process.
What Is a Simple Example?
A booking is confirmed for a meeting room. An automation can create a setup task for staff and send the customer a confirmation without asking someone to enter the same details again.
If a large booking needs approval, the automation can route it to the right manager instead of confirming it immediately.
Is Automation the Same as a Business Rule?
Not exactly. A rule defines the condition or decision. Automation performs or starts the action that follows.
For example, a booking rule may say a request above a certain size needs approval. Automation can then send the request to the approver and notify the requester when the decision is made.
